Let me start by saying that the Secret Aardvark hot sauce is amazing and easily one of the best-tasting hot sauces. It doesn’t overpower your taste buds with too much heat. The flavor is like no other hot sauce.
If you don’t know by now, I’m a true pepper head. Even at an early age, I loved eating very spicy and hot foods. There was always a bottle of Louisiana hot sauce on our table and I put it on everything. It doesn’t get much better than a sausage and egg sandwich with a little hot sauce and you also have to put it on just about every meat.
There came a day when Louisiana hot sauce wasn’t enough and I needed more heat. I graduated to tabasco hot sauce and found a new kind of heat. That only lasted for a bit, and I was up to trying hot peppers. My first experience with eating peppers was at Holly Farms chicken joint.
They sold jalapeno peppers for .10 and my older cousin (RIP) talked me into trying it one day. OMG, the heat was intense and my mouth burned like no one’s business, but it was so good. I started skipping the candy store and buying jalapeno peppers.
That was enough heat until pepper extracts and super hot sauces came along. I was living in Texas at the time, and there is no way you can avoid super hot sauces and pepper extracts in Texas. My first super hot sauce was Dave’s Insanity. I didn’t know what to expect and poured some on my plate.
I had a whole mess of fried frog legs and dipped one in Dave’s insanity. OMG, my first thought was, Holly Farms. I could feel the blood in my face rushing and the endorphins kicking in. My mouth went into fight or flight mode. Being a true pepper head, I decided to fight.
I picked up another frog leg and dipped it in Dave’s. I just couldn’t get enough. Fast forward to today, and I still love the heat, but my stomach and other bodily parts don’t. That still doesn’t stop me from occasionally enjoying some Mad Dog 357 hot sauce or Dave’s Ghost Pepper hot sauce.
Extreme hot sauce pepper extracts are okay, but they lack a flavor profile, it’s just pure heat. That’s where Secret Aardvark comes in. It doesn’t lack flavor. It’s easily become my favorite hot sauce. It has a really nice and unique flavor that’s very well balanced between sweet, savory, and heat.
The heat comes from habanero, which isn’t as hot as the ghost pepper, but it’s plenty hot. I put it on everything like egg sandwiches, Mexican food, and fried chicken. It also makes a nice buffalo sauce. Deep fry some chicken wings and make a buffalo wing sauce with the Secret Aardvark and butter.
Toss the wings in the sauce and serve with some blue cheese dressing. I call them Secret Aardvark buffalo wings and folk love them. They also carry other flavors like Drunken Jerk and Drunken Garlic. I’ll get around to doing a review of them as well.
The Good — The Secret Aardvark habanero hot sauce can be eaten on just about any food where heat and flavor are desired. The flavors are amazing and it’s not too thick or thin. It’s a decent hot sauce for the price and the packaging is very appealing.
The Not So Good — If I had to put a negative mark on the Secret Aardvark habanero, it would be the price, but it’s not so expensive that I won’t buy it. It’s a fair price for a gourmet hot sauce with quality ingredients.
