Rinse the beans and put them in the Instant Pot along with the ham hocks, onion, salt, black pepper, and pepper flakes. Pour the water in and close the lid.
Set the Instant Pot to cook on high pressure for 40 minutes. After the beans are done cooking, let the Instant Pot naturally release for 15 minutes.

Taste and add salt and pepper if needed. Serve with green onions and hot cornbread.
