I was worried that they’d come out crispy on the outside and doughy on the inside. Cooking egg rolls can get a little tricky if you don’t cook them right.
There is nothing worse than a pretty golden brown egg roll that’s not cooked on the inside. It doesn’t take long for the egg roll wrapper to cook on the outside, but the inside will be doughy because of the egg roll mixture’s water content.
But, that wasn’t the case at all. They cooked for 10 minutes and came out crispy and golden brown. They were very comparable to deep-fried egg rolls but without the excess fat calories from the oil.
How to get crispy egg rolls
If you want perfect egg rolls, let the shredded cabbage sit in the fridge for a few days before making the egg roll mixture. This will allow the cabbage to dry out some and when you cook them, they’ll have a better texture inside and out.
Are air fryer egg rolls healthy?
Egg rolls cooked in the air fryer are way more healthy than the fried variety. Egg rolls aren’t necessarily bad for you until they get fried. For the most part, most egg roll recipes are basically cabbage, carrots, and bean sprouts.
Some people make pork egg rolls which have more calories, but vegetable and seafood egg rolls are a better choice if you’re counting calories and looking for a healthy egg roll.
How to make eggs rolls in an air fryer
I simply preheated the air fryer and sprayed the air fryer basket with cooking oil. I then put the egg rolls in the basket and sprayed them with the cooking oil so they wouldn’t dry out.
Air Fryer Egg Rolls
- Air Fryer
- 6-8 egg rolls
- cooking spray
- Preheat the air fryer for 3 minutes on 400 degrees
- Spray the air fryer basket and place 6-8 egg rolls in the basket and spray with cooking oil.
- Set the timer for 10 minutes and the temperature at 400 degrees. Turn the egg rolls after cooking for 5 minutes and spray again with the cooking oil.
